The Cornhusker women's tennis team is hoping to improve on its showing in the 2007-08 season, after the team was unable to finish the year in the top 100 Division I teams, though seven other Big 12 teams did.

Senior Imke Reimers from Papenburg, Germany, led the Huskers last season with 21 wins and eight loses. Sophomore Wiveca Swarting finished second behind Reimers with 20 wins and 5 loses, and freshman Jana Albers, also from Papenburg, Germany, was third with 18 wins and five loses.

In June, Reimers was recognized with first-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors after she earned her bachelor's degree in economics and mathematics. Reimers became one of five athletes earning a postgraduate award of $7,500 in scholarships for excelling in competition, in the community and in the classroom.

In the spring, Reimers and Albers led the women's team in doubles with 16 wins and five loses. The team as a whole compiled 40 wins and 24 loses.

Coach Scott Jacobson's women's tennis team will begin the 2008-09 pre-season competition in September and the regular season begins in late January.
