Huskers improve after sluggish Monday
Defensive Coordinator Carl Pelini seemed pleased with Tuesday's practice after a lethargic effort on Monday. Pelini said there's a growing sense of energy and intensity among the defensive unit as Saturday's matchup against Western Michigan looms nearer. "I really think our defense is chomping at the bit," he said. "Those nerves are going away - they're becoming more confident with the game plan, but those nerves are going away." Offensive Coordinator Shawn Watson said Tuesday's improved effort was seen across the practice field. "You would think we were scrimmaging, the way we were playing," he said. "We're getting a little tired of playing each other and all that good stuff."
Watson decides to call plays from above
Watson said his choice to coordinate his offense from the coaches' box was to ensure he gets a complete view of the field and make sure he does his best not to miss any potentially important details in the game. "I'd rather it be my eyes (observing the offense)," he said. "My eyes and my ears." Watson was coy when asked about Saturday's game plan, as he didn't want to reveal too much to his opponent. However, he did say Western Michigan's defense should expect a diverse assault.
