Tony Schamber has been hired as the Nebraska basketball team's graduate manager of player development, coach Doc Sadler announced Tuesday.
Schamber replaces Bill Shaw, who held the role for one year before returning to Texas to coach high school basketball. He'd previously coached 30 years of high school ball in the state.
After spending three year as the graduate manager and a year as the director of basketball operations at Wyoming, Schamber joined NU's athletic department last August.
He spent the past year serving as an assistant academic counselor for basketball team, and he also assisted with football.
"Tony has worked with our team over the past year and has seen first-hand what we're trying to accomplish at Nebraska, both on the court and in the classroom," Sadler said in a statement. "The biggest benefit to our players is that he has already worked with the academic staff, so he understands how to help keep our student-athletes focused on the right track in the classroom."
Schamber played college basketball for Wyoming, Sheridan College in Sheridan, Wyoming and Chadron State. He helped lead Sheridan to a berth in the National Junior College Tournament in the 2001-2002 season, but an injury while at Chadron State ended Schamber's career.
He walked on at Wyoming following a high school career that included being honored as the 2000 Wyoming High School Player of the Year in basketball and an all-state selection in football.
Schamber completed his bachelor's degree in physical education at the University of Wyoming in May of 2005, and received his master's degree in kinesiology and health at UW in May 2007.
