Huskers

Damian Jackson leads the Husker football team out of the tunnel holding the flag during the game against Ohio State at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017.

Nebraska sophomore defensive lineman Damian Jackson was selected as one of five finalists for the 2019 Armed Forces Merit Award on Monday.

The Armed Forces Merit award is annually given to “an individual and/or a group with a military background and/or involvement that has an impact within the realm of college football,” according to https://www.armedforcesbowl.com/meritaward.

Jackson served as a Navy SEAL for four years before joining the Huskers. He redshirted in his freshman year, and has only appeared in one game during his tenure at Nebraska.

Out of the five finalists, Jackson is the only FBS player. The winner of the award will be announced at 10 a.m. on Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11).
