Nebraska sophomore middle blocker Lauren Stivrins was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Huskers’ two matches this weekend.

Stivrins scored a career-high 10 blocks in the Huskers five-set victory over No. 7 Penn State on Friday. She added eight more the next night against Rutgers to finish the weekend with 18 blocks.

Through the two matches, Stivrins averaged 2.25 blocks per set. She also had 18 kills over the weekend –– 13 against Penn State and five against Rutgers. Her performances helped Nebraska hold the Nittany Lions to just .118 hitting in Friday’s match. Rutgers hit just .024, including -.182 in the second set, against Stivrins and the Huskers on Saturday.

This is the second individual award Stivrins has earned in her career. She was named Big Ten Player of the Week in October.

Stivrins and the Huskers are back in action Wednesday at Iowa at 7 p.m. That match will air on BTN.
