Pleased with progress
The first two days of practice this week left Nebraska Coach Bill Callahan pleased with the team's progress.
"We practiced fast," Callahan said. "You can see our guys coming around with a lot of life and energy. I'm really happy about the way we practiced the past two days."
NU junior wide receiver Nate Swift said senior quarterback Sam Keller and the receiving corps had two of their best practices of the season.
"We've been practicing great," Swift said. "Sam's hitting everybody, and it's just been a lot of fun."
Culbert update
Last year, Major Culbert played on special teams in addition to practicing at safety. The sophomore started this season in the mix at I-back and now this week is practicing as a linebacker.
"Major's a great kid," Callahan said. "He's a team guy and he wants to help any way he can, so his abilities to go over to defense can help us."
Callahan said Culbert will still play on special teams and can switch back to offense if needed.
Brandenburgh sidelined
With senior linebacker Lance Brandenburgh nursing a high-ankle sprain, it is unclear whether he will play Saturday against Iowa State.
Callahan said Brandenburgh's status is "day to day," but if he's not ready for the game, Callahan said the Cornhuskers will have to make adjustments.
"We're kind of mixing and matching those responsibilities right now," Callahan said.
