Scouting the OSU defense

The Nebraska football team held a shortened practice on Wednesday. In half pads at Memorial Stadium, the Cornhuskers are hoping to stay fresh as they prepare for Oklahoma State's intense defensive squad on Saturday.

"I think they're all good," NU Coach Bill Callahan said of the Cowboys' defensive unit. "I think they're very talented, they are deep. They've got everything going in terms of mixture and balance and things of that nature. They're well-versed. They've got a lot of speed and explosion on that side of the ball that just jumps out at you. They're going to be a challenge, there's no doubt about that."

More specifically, Callahan said Nebraska's offense is having trouble finding a hole to attack in Oklahoma State's linebacking corps.

"They're really athletic; they're fast and quick," Callahan said. "They can change direction. They play the run and pass equally as well. Usually you see in a unit that there's a deficiency or weakness that you'd like to attack, but there's nothing there. They're real solid."

Providing instruction after the loss

Even though there were breakdowns in several units during Saturday's game, Callahan said the team has moved on to its next challenge.

"I think we always recap the game and move on," he said. "We're more in tune to the challenge than anything now. When you watch (the Cowboys') front four and you watch their defense play, there's a lot of quality players and speed."

Party like it's 1997

So far Callahan hasn't released anything that the current Husker squad will do with players from the returning 1997 national championship team. For the most part, Callahan said, they just want to win.

"We're going to be in our normal schedule," Callahan said. "They deserve to be honored. The best thing we can do is honor them by winning the game."
