In the weird aftermath of signing day, Nebraska's football team could be adding one more prospect to its 2009 recruiting class.
Touted recruit David Oku has enrolled at Lincoln East High School, according to his former high school coach Gary Rose and the Lincoln Public Schools registrar's office.
The running back, rated as the best all-purpose running back in the 2009 class on recruiting Web site Rivals.com, recently moved to Lincoln. Rose said he was informed of
Oku's plans last Thursday but didn't know why Oku decided to move.
The phone line to Oku's parent's home was disconnected when the Daily Nebraskan called Monday night.
Oku previously attended Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Okla.
As a senior, he rushed for 1,905 yards and 23 touchdowns to lead Carl Albert to the Class 5A championship game.
Oku has not decided where he will play this fall. He visited Nebraska on Sept. 26 but committed to Tennessee in mid-October.
Oku, the No. 94 player in the nation according to Rivals.com, visited Syracuse and Auburn in January and broke his commitment to the Volunteers soon after. He did not come to a decision on Signing Day and has continued to struggle with his decision.
"This decision is very hard," Oku told Rivals.com on Sunday. "It's very hard. I'm taking my time to make sure I make the right decision."
His list of colleges is reportedly down to Auburn, Tennessee, Syracuse and Ole Miss.
Oku told Rivals.com Monday that this new move to Lincoln will not affect his decision.
"This won't affect my recruiting at all," Oku said. "Nebraska has been a school I looked at before I moved. It doesn't mean since I moved up here I'll be going to Nebraska. I still got all of the other schools that I'm looking at."
According to Rivals.com, one reason for Oku's move is his girlfriend.
Reportedly, Oku met her while on his visit to Lincoln in September. He vehemently denied to Rivals.com that he was moving because she was pregnant.
"I honestly moved because, at this school, I'm given more classes and (it) will better help me prepare for college," Oku told the Web site.
Though it appears NU coaches haven't been recruiting Oku for months, it seems logical the move would reignite his recruitment.
