Eight students in the University of Nebraska system have received the Presidential Graduate Fellowship. These fellowships are for graduate students who are entering their final year of school.

"The Fellowship is a prestigious award that allows them to work full time on their dissertation or thesis so they don't need another job," said Linda Pratt, executive vice president and provost of the University of Nebraska. It is the largest award in terms of the financial stipend, she said.

Half of the fellowship recipients are from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Two students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and two students from the University of Nebraska Medical Center also received the award. The graduate dean on the campus level chooses outstanding students depending on the size of the campus. That recommendation goes to the University of Nebraska President J.B. Milliken. There are no specific requirements other than it needs to be an outstanding graduate student entering their last year at one of the University of Nebraska universities.

The recipients:

Bradley Baurain, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ph.D. candidate in teaching, learning and teacher education

Jesse Cox, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Ph.D. candidate in cancer research

Shannon Cummins, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ph.D. candidate in business

Parama Dey, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Ph.D. candidate in biochemistry and molecular biology

Rhitankar Pal, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ph.D. candidate in chemistry

Robert Stanton, University of Nebraska at Omaha, master's degree candidate in biology

Derrick Stolee, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ph.D. candidate in mathematics and computer science

Benjamin Wigert, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Ph.D. candidate in industrial-organizational psychology
