As a new student, it can be difficult at first to establish yourself on campus. There are so many things to worry about: Will my roommate be crazy? Is the food going to be horrible? Will my professors like me? Does that guy think I'm cute? One question you may not think about until the end of August might be even more important: Where should I study?

Not to worry! We at the Daily Nebraskan have assembled a list of some of the best study spots on campus, whether you prefer to study in perfect solitude, with a bit of noise or with your favorite snacks.

For the easily distracted student who needs perfect silence, you may want to try a secluded corner of Love Library. Centrally located on City Campus, Love Library has many tables, desks and computers. If you need absolute silence, try sitting between the bookshelves in the basement of Love North. It isn't the most comfortable place, but I have found it to be the quietest.

Many dorms have personal study cubicles that can also provide you with a quiet atmosphere. For those of you who live in Neihardt, the Blue Room is fairly quiet and equipped with comfortable chairs and couches.

Finding a study space with some noise is a much easier task. Some students find it's effective to arrive to class a few minutes early to study. Others prefer a more protracted studying experience, which can be found at the Nebraska Union on City Campus, or in other buildings such as Oldfather Hall or the College of Business Administration.

If you want a quieter atmosphere, like the library, but also want to be able to eat, Love Library now has a room in the southeast corner that will suit you. While it is a designated "talking zone," the noise levels are usually low, and it is equipped with vending machines.

Nebraska weather doesn't always permit this, but studying outside can be a great experience. The University of Nebraska campus is full of benches and grassy areas, which create great places for studying. Some of the best places for this are by the fountain to the north of the union and in the grassy area near Selleck Quadrangle.

For a more intimate study setting, try the gardens near Sheldon Museum of Art or the benches and picnic tables north of Westbrook Music Building.

UNL is full of study areas, and some of the best aren't even listed here. (We don't want to give away all our secrets!) One of the best ways to find a good place to study is to do some exploring, and there is no better time for that than now. So get to it! Happy studying.
