The Foundation Garden Performance Series continues its midweek musical events with an upcoming show that's set to feature some swinging country classics.
The Foundation Garden Performance Series will hold its 27th consecutive season with free musical performances at the Community Foundation Garden each Wednesday at noon through Aug. 31.
The Foundation Garden Performance Series, which is sponsored by the Lincoln Community Foundation and produced by Arts Incorporated, offers an enjoyable lunchtime break for Lincolnites at the outdoor venue located on N Street between 14th and 15th streets.
"The Community Foundation Garden is a small, gated garden intended for use by the community," said Sarah Peetz, the vice president for community outreach at the Lincoln Community Foundation. "It's a beautiful venue where people can relax, grab a bite to eat and enjoy some great local entertainment."
The Melody Wranglers will be playing at the July 6 installment of the series. The band has more than 30 years of professional experience between its four members, all of whom were a part of the legendary Nebraska country-swing band Sour Mash.
Each of the Melody Wranglers continues to play for multiple bands, with styles ranging from country and bluegrass to jazz and rock. More than 12 albums, multiple television specials and several music festival awards are shared between the Melody Wranglers' four talented musicians.
Pam Herbert Barger is the vocalist and keyboardist for the Melody Wranglers. In her career that began at the ripe age of 17, Herbert Barger has been the lead singer for Sour Mash, recorded an album with Rick Evans and played for the both the New High Flyers and the Fab Tones for several years.
Randy Barger plays guitar and does vocals for the Melody Wranglers. One of the founding members of Sour Mash, Barger also spent some time performing with the rocking rhythm and blues band the Resonators.
Dell Darling is the Melody Wranglers' drummer who's played more gigs and mastered more musical styles than just about any Nebraska native drummer out there. In addition to his time with Sour Mash, Darling has also played extensively with Rhythm Method, Toot Sweet, the Country Outlaws, the Resonators and the Lou Arnold Orchestra.
The bassist and vocalist for the Melody Wranglers, Jim Pipher, also has an impressive resume. Pipher's talents have been offered to the Roy Williams Band, the New High Flyers, Bluegrass Crusade, the Toasted Ponies, the Fab Tones and the Lightning Bugs.
With a musical style that's described as danceable and straight-ahead country with tight vocal harmonies, the Melody Wranglers should make this week's Foundation Garden Performance Series a memorable event. The seasoned group of musicians will bring their experience to the Community Foundation Garden for a performance that will offer covers from the likes of Hank Williams, Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash, as well as some originals from their many bands.
