Duffy's Tavern in downtown Lincoln is always an excellent place to slurp down a tasty fishbowl while enjoying an energetic live musical performance, and this Sunday is no exception.

The Kickback, the StereoFidelics and Well-Dressed Man-Disguise will be playing an 18 and older show at Duffy's on June 26 starting at 9 p.m.

Duffy's is one of the most popular and historic live music venues in the downtown area.

"Duffy's has been hosting live music for 25 years, including everything from local to international touring artists," said Jeremy "Dub" Wardlaw, who does all the booking and promotions for Duffy's. "We always try to make sure that everyone, from acts to patrons, gets the best experience we can possibly offer when we have an event."

This Sunday's headlining act will be the Kickback, an indie rock band formed in 2006.

"We're four guys and a lady with firm, even if transplanted, Midwestern roots," said Tyler Zee, who plays guitar and sings vocals for the group. "We love playing music enough to stretch every last minute and nickel out of our lives to make it work, and it's totally worth it."

The Kickback's sound is continually evolving, with choir-inspired vocal harmonies and intertwining guitar riffs leading the way.

"We strive for all the familiarity of an oldies station but fueled with the manic energy of your typical hobo street corner rant," Zee said. "We want to make you feel at home while also remaining casually concerned that we're in it, sort of a ‘Gee, this guy's funny, but is he going to hurt me?' type of feel."

The Kickback has become a favorite at Duffy's, a venue the band has played countless times.

"The Kickback are not only a talented group of musicians, but a great group of individuals, as well," Wardlaw said. "It didn't take long for people to start picking up on those qualities and help make Lincoln feel like a second home for the group."

The Kickback's guitarist said the group enjoys performing at Duffy's whenever it comes to town.

"As many great venues as Lincoln has to offer, I can't imagine playing anywhere else," Zee said. "Playing Duffy's is like visiting grandma's house over Christmas and being showered with cookies (whiskey) and praise (clapping)."

Zee ensures that the Kickback's show at Duffy's will draw in a good crowd looking to have a great time.

"If you have something better to do on a Sunday night in late June than hang out at Duffy's and watch top-notch live bands, we probably can't be friends," Zee said. "Also, I probably don't know you, because pretty much everybody is going to be there."
