The Campus Rec Center was evacuated Sunday after smoke started leaking into the locker rooms.
“You could smell it for sure,” said Lindsey DeWitt, a junior elementary education major and Rec Center lifeguard.
Lt. Fire Chief Dean Staberg said he suspects a broken belt on a heating or air conditioning unit caused the smoke.
Staberg said he was very impressed with the quick evacuation of the Rec Center.
“We didn’t have to worry about finding people to get them out of the structure,” he said.
DeWitt said there are certain procedures for emergency situations.
“Every (work) station has a card that tells you what to do.”
