University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman addressed a crowd of alumni on campus for Husker Spiritfest, a weekend long celebration for alumni, faculty and students, this morning at Kimball Recital Hall. His address focused on the UNL's progress in several areas, including Innovation Campus, student enrollment and globalization.
Perlman told alumni today that UNL administration chose two consultant firms for the development of Innovation Campus. The firms include Smithgroup /JJR and Noddle Development.
Perlman also said he hopes to attract research partnerships with private companies. He said he has discussed Innovation Campus with two prominent firms in the last month, but would not identify them.
Students no longer choose UNL as a last resort, but as their first choice, Perlman said. Since 2000, the percentage of students from Nebraska attending UNL who graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class has increased from 29 percent to 38 percent.
Also, the percentage of non-resident students at UNL has increased from 6 percent to 10 percent and the average ACT score of UNL students is at an all time high of 25 points.
Perlman also mentioned his recent trip to India and UNL's quest toward globalization. The university is focusing on China and India in particular. UNL has partnerships with two universities in China and helps advise the Indian government on food processing.
