Two University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletes, senior Paul Donahoe and junior Kenny Jordan, were dismissed from the wrestling team Tuesday afternoon after posing nude for a gay pornography site based in Los Angeles.
UNL officials said the men violated a NCAA rule prohibiting athletes to use their photos for commercial use. Athletes are ineligible for competition if they accept compensation.
Jordan acknowledged he "messed up."
"I made a bad decision and I got in trouble," Jordan said in a phone interview with the Daily Nebraskan. "My punishment is definitely fair."
When asked how much he was paid for the photos and videos, Jordan hung up.
Donahoe did not respond to Daily Nebraskan phone calls.
A subscription to the site, Fratmen.tv, costs $24.95 per month, but the images and clips could be found on other Web sites.
Both men had stage names. Jordan's stage name is Cal and Donahoe's is Nash.
Hotmancandy.com confirmed Donahoe joined the Fratmen first by stating, "…next week, his best friend Cal joins the Fratmen brotherhood."
In addition to several photos, both Jordan and Donahoe had solo videos of them masturbating.
NU wrestling Coach Mark Manning said in an Athletic Department statement that this incident was not the only factor determining the duo's dismissal.
"The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat," Manning said.
Both men have a track record with the law, according to The Associated Press. Donahoe has paid fines for maintaining a disorderly home and having an open alcohol container and Jordan for a minor in possession of alcohol, trespassing and assault.
"We have outstanding student-athletes in our program and we will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals," Manning said. "I want to personally apologize for any embarrassment that may have been caused for our athletic department, the university and our fans."
Both athletes qualified for the 2008 Wrestling National Championships. Donahoe was the 2007 national champion at 125 pounds. He finished third in 2008.
Kenny Jordan is a 133-pound wrestler and placed fourth at the 2008 Big 12 Championship.
The men can apply for reinstatement with the NCAA and wrestle for a different university.
The NCAA declined to comment on whether the two would be reinstated if they applied, adding they didn't know enough information yet.
