Freshman arrested Friday afternoon for Cather Hall bathroom disturbance
A University of Nebraska-Lincoln student was cited by police for disturbing the peace of an 11th-floor bathroom in Cather Hall on Friday afternoon.
Carl Oestmann, director of patrol operations for UNL police, said police responded to a call from a student about another student yelling profanities and kicking the partitions in the bathroom.
Police then spoke with housing staff and eventually found and arrested Brent Schwartz, a freshman general studies major, for disturbing the peace and criminal mischief. One of the bathroom stalls was damaged, Oestmann said.
Intoxicated student hauled to detox after attempted pizza theft
University of Nebraska-Lincoln police responded to the cries of a pizza delivery man early Friday. It was just after 1 a.m. Friday, and the Papa John's employee was livid that an intoxicated UNL student had broken into his car to steal pizzas.
Carl Oestmann, director of patrol operations for UNL police, said an officer on patrol heard someone yelling in the parking lot near Blockbuster Video and Papa John's near 16th and Q streets.
Kelsey Hearnen, a senior finance major, had entered the vehicle and was near the pizzas when she was apprehended by police. Oestmann said Hearnen also displayed signs of intoxication and was taken to detox where she tested at a .279 BAC.
Various traffic violations lead to DWI charge near campus
A University of Nebraska-Lincoln student was caught by UNL police after driving drunk just outside campus.
Carl Oestmann, director of patrol operation for UNL police said there were several cues that led police to believe Amber Christensen, a junior psychology major, was driving drunk at 1:30 Saturday morning. Oestmann said an officer first noticed that the truck she was driving had a broken taillight. It also waited at the intersection of 14th and P streets for a long time after the light turned green. She also crossed the traffic lanes a few times and displayed signs of intoxication when she was finally pulled over, Oestmann said.
Christensen was cited for DWI and taken to detox where she registered at a .2 BAC.
