Freshman receives MIP by consumption

In response to a report of a possible intoxicated person outside Cather Residence Hall early Sunday morning, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police cited Gabriel Tenyenhuis, a freshman general studies major. During the investigation, police determined Tenyenhuis had been drinking earlier in the evening. He was cited for minor in possession by consumption and released. He tested a .233 BAC, police said.

Bike thief caught near R and 22nd streets

At 10:37 p.m. Sunday, UNL Police received a report of a bicycle stolen from outside Selleck Residence Hall. After receiving a description of the perpetrator from a witness and checking the area, police found 38-year-old David Fitzpatrick, an agronomy graduate student, on R Street nearing 22nd Street. Upon talking with Fitzpatrick, it was determined that the bicycle he was riding didn't belong to him. He was cited for theft and released, said UNLPD Asst. Chief Carl Oestmann.

Marijuana smell leads to slew of tickets for freshman

UNL Police responded to a report of the possible odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle in the Abel-Sandoz parking lot near midnight Friday. Upon investigating the vehicle, police found Colton Zurcher, a freshman engineering major. During the investigation, it was determined Zurcher had been consuming alcohol. Police also discovered a multi-colored glass pipe along with a plastic baggie containing 3.4 grams of marijuana. Zurcher was ticketed for possession of marijuana less than one ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession by consumption, police said.

Lack of headlights leads to DWI

At 1:12 a.m. Friday, a UNL Police officer observed a car traveling without its headlights on near 16th and Vine streets. Contact was made with the driver, junior merchandising major Samantha Schmeeckle, who exhibited signs of intoxication during the investigation. She was ticketed for driving while intoxicated and for driving with no headlights on at night, police said.
