UNLPD arrest man for trespassing in Neihardt Residence Hall
At 8:30 a.m. Thursday, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department arrested 29-year old William Crosgrove in Neihardt Residence Hall for trespassing.
Asst. Chief Carl Oestmann said UNLPD received a report of a person inside of a student's dorm room and responded immediately. Crosgrove, who has no record of a permanent address, was found in the 3rd floor lobby of Neihardt.
Oestmann said the student left the room only to return minutes later to find Crosgrove going through items left on a desk.
The door to the room was neither locked nor entirely closed when the student momentarily left.
"Theft is a crime of opportunity," Oestmann said. "Even if students are going to be out of their room for a few minutes, it is important they close and lock their doors."
Residence halls will be deciding whether or not they will keep outside doors locked 24/7 before next fall.
