Imagine this: Memorial Stadium packed to the brim with people who are laughing so hard they startle birds in nearby trees.
In the middle of the football field stands a man in a Huskers shirt and a baseball cap with a fish hook. His accent is a mixture of Nebraska and southern Florida, and he knows how to work a crowd. His jokes are slightly raunchy, but most of it goes right over the heads of the children in the audience.
The best part? He's not wearing that shirt for show. He was born in Nebraska and loves the home team as much as you do. Then again, perhaps that is not the best part.
Perhaps the best part is that all of this is actually going to happen.
That's right ladies and gentlemen: Larry the Cable Guy is coming home to Nebraska for a stadium event. Get ready, because it is going to be a performance to remember.
If you happen to be one of those people who do not follow the world of professional comedy, then you may not have heard of Larry the Cable Guy before. Rather than leave you in the dark, here are the basics about the Freight Train of Comedy.
Larry the Cable Guy was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska. His birth certificate reads Daniel Lawrence Whitney. He is best known as one of the performers in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, though he has released his own comedy albums.
In addition to stand up comedy, Larry the Cable Guy has also starred in several feature films. These films include "Witless Protection," "Delta Farce" and "Cars," in which he was the voice of Mater. He has also hosted several television specials. To date, Larry the Cable Guy has released five albums and a bestselling book titled after his catchphrase, "Git-R-Done."
This summer's show will be held in Memorial Stadium on the Fourth of July and promises to be laugh-out-loud hilarious.
Larry the Cable Guy is considered by many to be an expert at backwoods country humor. He is also a master at celebrity humor, in which he gently mocks the goings-on in Hollywood today. His Christmas carols are always a big hit, though they would seem out of place on Independence Day.
The show itself begins at 7:30 p.m. on July 4. Each ticket costs $6 after surcharges and can be purchased through the Nebraska Athletics ticket office.
