Seeing the best and the worst the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus has to offer is one of the many responsibilities of the Committee for Fees Allocation.

The past two weeks have consisted of exactly that, while members have viewed the Campus Recreation Center's facilities all over campus.

Maria Leicy, a senior business management major at UNL, said an interesting building to visit last week was the Whittier building, an old middle school that has been used as an indoor floor hockey rink. The windows were either broken or boarded-up, and a working light switch on the rinks could not be found.

Stan Campbell, assistant vice chancellor and director of the rec center, said there is some discussion about renovating the building to make it more useable for more students, staff and faculty members.

"That would go through grant funding rather than CFA," Campbell said.

CFA members toured the inside of the rec center Tuesday night and saw the most recent enhancement - the Outdoor Rec Bike Shop.

Jon Godsey, assistant director for outdoor recreation at UNL, said the bike shop fully took off during the summer.

"We've had over 1,000 people stop in so far this year," he said. "There has been a very positive response."

Further discussions about CFA funding and budgets for the rec center will not take place until next semester.
