The Nebraska softball team opened its Big 12 Conference season with a pair of losses to Texas during the weekend.

Tough Longhorn pitching kept the Cornhusker offense off balance all weekend, holding the Huskers to one run in 14 total innings. NU dropped Friday night's game by a score of 5-1 and lost Saturday afternoon, 4-0.

"I thought Texas played well," said NU Coach Rhonda Revelle. "They took advantage of their opportunities, but it's hard to win when you only score one run in two games."

The Huskers (13-12, 0-2 Big 12) were only able to muster six total hits on the weekend as well. Revelle said her team came in with an offensive game plan but wasn't able to execute it.

"Give some credit to their pitching," Revelle said. "I thought we had a good plan and didn't follow it very well. We were passive."

On Friday, Texas (16-11-2, 2-0 Big 12) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. In the top of the third, the Huskers were looking to respond and loaded the bases with just one out before NU junior Amanda Duran was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run.

That's the only run Nebraska would get, though, as some tough-luck hitting ended the rally.

Texas answered right back with four runs in the bottom of the third against Nebraska junior pitcher Molly Hill. Hill settled down and wouldn't allow any more runs the rest of the way, but the damage had been done. Hill gave up five runs on 10 hits in six innings.

NU junior Darcy Rutherford and freshman Ashley Guile collected the two lone hits for the Huskers in Friday's game.

On Saturday, the third inning once again proved to be the decider of the game. The Longhorns were able to score three runs in the third against NU sophomore pitcher Alex Hupp. Texas tacked on another run in the fifth inning. Hupp gave up four runs on eight hits in the complete-game effort.

Two hitters did all the damage for the Texas offense. Loryn Johnson and Tallie Thrasher combined to go 4-for-6 in the game and each had a home run. They had all four of Texas' RBIs.
