Student government officials will have a runoff election next Tuesday in order to select next year's student government president and internal vice president.
Unofficial results for the election of the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska showed there wasn't a clear winner for the two top posts. Presidential candidates and internal vice presidential candidates run together on the ballot.
A package of two candidates needed to win by at least 10 percent more of the vote than its closest competitor, and 2,816 students voted this year, meaning the presidential candidates needed to win by 282.
Last year, 805 of the 20,821 eligible voters cast their ballots, or 3.9 percent. This year, 2,816 students voted out of the 21,204 eligible voters, or 13.3 percent.
Emily Zimmer and Trevor Neiveen of the BRIGHT Party received 1,218 votes. Adam Morfeld and Courtney Henjy of Ignite received 1,040 votes.
Eric Thorson and Kristin Brotan of All'N received 480 votes.
Katie Madsen of BRIGHT won the vote for external vice president with 1,369 votes. Jared Tidemann of All'N had 448 votes and David Barmore of Ignite had 909 votes.
The last time a runoff election occurred was in 2001 between The Score and No Bull parties.
