Big 12 Women's Basketball homeroom, 2/26
Issue date: 2/26/08 Section: Sports
1. Baylor (23-3 overall, 11-2 Big 12 Conference)
In their last five games, the Bears are a mediocre 3-2 with losses to Oklahoma State and Texas. The loss to Texas hurts, but BU's 20-point thumping of Oklahoma shows they should be fine.
2. Kansas State (18-8, 10-3)
Last week was horrible for the Wildcats. KSU has lost its last two games by a combined eight points to Oklahoma and Colorado. They are expected to bounce back, though, as they welcome in Nebraska who just lost to Texas Tech.
3. Oklahoma (20-5, 10-3)
It's hard to say this team should be at the top of the Big 12, but they should. Even though they lost by 20 to Baylor, the Sooners are playing some of their best basketball down the stretch.
4. Oklahoma State (21-5, 9-4)
The Cowgirls are in the NCAA Tournament - that's a given. But they might lose more than they will win the rest of the way. After dropping two of their last three games, the Cowgirls are looking forward to both Texas A&M and Baylor.
5. Texas A&M (20-7, 8-5)
The Aggies have finally leapfrogged the slumping Huskers as they head down the stretch. Outside of a loss to OU, TAMU has won seven of eight and may have the toughest finish in the conference with OSU, Baylor and OU finishing the season.
6. Nebraska (18-9, 7-6)
Some of the luster and shine is starting to fade off of an NU team that beat Texas A&M and Texas earlier in the year. After a loss to Texas Tech on Sunday, the Huskers have a chance for a big statement game Wednesday in Manhattan, Kan.
7. Iowa State (16-10, 5-8)
The Cyclones have been on a roller coaster the last couple weeks, which have involved a three-point loss to KSU, a five-point upset of OSU and a five-point battle that ended up in a loss to Baylor.
8. Texas (16-11, 4-9)
After an upset of Baylor, UT has fallen back down to the doldrums with losses to Colorado, OSU and TAMU. They will have another battle on their hands when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. to take on the Jayhawks on Wednesday.
9. Texas Tech (16-11, 4-9)
Texas Tech knocked off only its fourth conference opponent of the year last weekend, but it was a team that was four spots higher in the conference.
10. Kansas (15-11, 4-9)
The Jayhawks had a week they would like to forget after losing to both Texas Tech and Missouri. The losses are definitely a drop from their upset of Nebraska a couple of weeks ago. Games against Texas and K-State are in the near-future.
11. Colorado (15-11, 4-9)
The Buffs are coming off of what may be the two biggest wins of the season after knocking off both Texas and Kansas State in the same week.
12. Missouri (9-17, 2-11)
Tiger fans were able to look on Sunday as Mizzou won a 3-point thriller against the Jayhawks. With the win only being their second in the conference, the Tigers will be looking to keep the streak going Wednesday when they bring in ISU.
