The Cornhusker women's tennis team ran its record to a perfect 9-0 after weekend wins at Iowa State and at home against Southeast Missouri State.

NU had its school-record streak of seven straight 7-0 sweeps snapped at Iowa State but still came out with an important conference win. The Huskers defeated the Cyclones 6-1 in their first Big 12 Conference dual on Friday.

Senior Imke Reimers and freshman Jana Albers won their match at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory over ISU's Erin Karonis and Chrissy Derouin. Junior Maria Ring and sophomore Wiveca Swarting defeated Caitlin Loprinzi and Alyssa Palen 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. The Huskers dropped their first doubles match of the spring season when Iowa State's Kara Hickey and Liza Wischer beat NU freshmen Stephanie Evans and Amber Chandronnait 8-4 in the No. 3 slot. The Huskers still won the doubles point by taking two of three matches.

"Even in our loss, our doubles teams got off to a quick start," said NU Assistant Coach Hayden Perez. "We've been starting doubles with lots of energy."

The Huskers then won five of six singles matches. Reimers defeated Karonis 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Albers swept her first and third sets after dropping the second in a 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 win over Palen at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Swarting defeated Derouin 6-2, 6-1. The Cyclones' Loprinzi handed Evans her (and the team's) first singles loss 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Chandronnait won an exciting No. 5 singles match over Wischer 6-3, 2-6 (10-8). Freshman Abby Buxton beat ISU's Reka Kelemen 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

"(The Cyclones) were our best opponents yet so the girls had to rise to the occasion, which they did," Perez said.

In Sunday's action, NU swept Southeast Missouri State 7-0 without dropping a set at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Reimers and Albers defeated twins Bryce and Drew Kristal 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Swarting and Ring beat Alyce Kelly and Julia Masotti 8-2. Chandronnait and Buxton won 8-1 over the Redhawks' Elise Nattier and Taylor Orahood at No. 3 doubles.

No Husker gave up more than three total games against Southeast Missouri State. Reimers won her No. 1 doubles match over Bryce Kristal 6-0, 6-3. Albers dominated Masotti in a 6-1, 6-1 match at No. 2 doubles. Swarting defeated Drew Kristal at No. 3 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Chandronnait won a 6-1, 6-2 match over Kelly at No. 4 singles. Evans and junior Marianne Cicmanec swept Nattier and Orahood, respectively at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

The Huskers return to action with home duals against Air Force on Friday and Northern Iowa on Sunday.

"I served well and stepped into my return," Cicmanec said. "I played really aggressively."

With Evans and Cicmanec recording sweeps on Sunday, six different Huskers have now recorded 6-0, 6-0 sweeps. Swarting, Reimers, Albers and Chandronnait have each contributed to the Husker sweeps. This is even more impressive considering that NU had only one sweep all last season.
