It was a good weekend of match play for the Nebraska soccer team, as it got back to its winning ways.
After dropping its first contest against the Arizona State Sun Devils, 2-1, the Cornhuskers stormed right back and won their match against the Arizona Wildcats, 2-1.
The final five minutes of the squad's match against ASU saw sophomore Jaclyn White score a goal, setting the tone for the Huskers' next match.
NU sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Mills said in the fall it felt like the freshmen were thrown into the mix, but the second time around the more experienced squad is more comfortable and confident as a unit.
"All the freshman have improved greatly," Mills said. "I think everyone has something to prove. You can't just come and show up; you have to bring something and be an impact player."
Last season, the Huskers finished a disappointing 5-10-4, including just 1-8-1 in Big 12 Conference play. They also broke in 14 true freshmen, many of whom started.
In the second game against the Wildcats, it was a full-team effort in the Husker victory. It is the first time that the squad has won since Oct. 12 - which was a 4-0 win against Lamar.
"Having a win was good," Mills said. "We haven't won in a while and it was helpful. We have so much potential and so many good players. We have more to give."
The Huskers will host Drake and South Dakota State in their home openers March 9.
