Tournament improves golfers personal bests

The Nebraska women's golf team finished its first tournament of the spring season in ninth place on Tuesday.
After two rounds of golf Monday the Cornhuskers were in 10th place out of 15 teams at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. They fired a 305 in the final round -- the third-best score of the day -- to improve their team standing.
The Huskers had a three-round total of 927, one stroke behind eighth-place Michigan.
Nebraska sophomore JC Stevenson shot a three-over-par 75 on Tuesday and finished in 12th place. Stevenson had an overall score of 227.
NU senior Elli Brown fired a 75 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 28th place in a field of 75 golfers. Senior Allison Stewart finished in a tie for 31st place and sophomore Kate White finished in a tie for 39th place.
MIchigan State won the tournament and finished ten strokes ahead of second-place Texas A&M.
Sara Brown of Michigan State won the individual title with a four-under-par 212 after the three rounds of golf.
Nebraska finished ahead of Big 12 Conference rivals Oklahoma, Baylor and Kansas State.

The Huskers had an three-round score of 936.
Nebraska freshman Andrew Wyatt had a career-best tournament score of 223 and finished in a tie for 18th place. Wyatt shot a career-best 72 in the final two rounds.
Before this tournament, Wyatt's highest finish was 43rd at the Kansas Invitational in September.
NU freshman Mike Coatman finished in a tie for 45th place after firing an overall score of 233. Junior Chris Bruening finished 55th overall.
Baylor won the team title with an overall score of 878. UC Davis finished second and Pacific finished third.
Amrith de Soysa of Lousiana Tech won the individual title with a one-over-par 217.
The women will compete next in the Texas A&M "Mo" Morial from March 7-9 in Bryan, Texas. The men will travel to Tampa Bay, Fla., to play in the South Florida Invitational from Feb. 29 to March 2.
