The Dailyer Nebraskan is a joke, but its staff doesn't mind - that's the point.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln students will have two student newspapers to choose from with the printing of the Dailyer Nebraskan's first issue.
After the satirical news zine gained financial support and affiliation from the UNL Publications Board, members spent hours writing articles, designing pages and looking for advertisers.
The 16 pages of content include 12 fake news pages and 4 pages of real entertainment stories, including an interview with the band, The Grand Archives. There is also a column by Joe Garden, the editor of The Onion, after which the paper is modeled.
Issues of the paper can be picked up everywhere the Daily Nebraskan is distributed.
Dailyer members did a lot of the preparatory work at Andersen Hall.
"It (was) pretty much from when we got out of class until the J-school closed," said Christina DeVries, a sophomore news and editorial major and the Dailyer's entertainment editor.
It was a team effort, she said.
Carson Vaughan, a sophomore news and editorial major and the Dailyer's editor in chief, spent many sleepless nights learning the ins and outs of Adobe InDesign.
Computer programs weren't the only hardship the Dailyer staff faced.
"It was pretty frustrating not (having) a common place to meet," Vaughan said.
Despite the difficulties, the Dailyer Nebraskan has pulled through.
"We've worked really hard this week to get this issue out," said Bryce Wergin, a sophomore advertising major and the Dailyer's assistant editor. "We are all very excited."
Wergin was also grateful for money allocated by the Publications Board, which covered printing costs.
"It helped us out a ton ... We are lucky we have that money from them."
To describe how he felt about the paper coming out, Vaughan recalled a Bill Murray quote from his favorite movie, "Ghostbusters."
"'Why worry?" he said. "Each one of us is wearing nuclear accelerators on our backs.'"
