The Cornhusker women's tennis team enjoyed a successful weekend, dominating in two dual wins over Illinois State and Colorado State by identical 7-0 marks.

Nebraska scored an impressive 7-0 dual victory over Illinois State on Friday. One of the highlights for NU was the play of freshman No. 6 singles player Abby Buxton, who was playing her first collegiate dual. She defeated the Redbirds' Katie O'Riley 6-0, 6-1.

"Buxton played great at No. 6," said NU Coach Scott Jacobson. "She played a quick match and had tremendous poise."

In other singles action for the Huskers, No. 1 singles player Imke Reimers won her match 6-2, 7-5. After Reimers easily won the first set, each player had trouble holding serve. By the time the set was tied 5-5, Reimers and Miller had broken each other's serve three times. Reimers eventually held her serve in a long game to take a 6-5 lead and was leading Miller 40-0 in the next game before Miller saved three match points to take the game to deuce. Miller held off two more match points in the deuce, but Reimers finally won on her sixth attempt at match point.

Nebraska sophomore Wiveca Swarting, who was playing her first match at No. 2 singles, easily beat ISU's Veronique Parke-Bedard 6-2, 6-2 to celebrate her 21st birthday on Friday.

Freshman Jana Albers was the first Husker to lose a set on the season, but rallied to beat Julia Zubkova 4-6, 6-4 (10-5) in No. 3 singles. NU freshman Amber Chandronnait won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-3 to earn her first singles dual victory at Nebraska. Fellow freshman Stephanie Evans also won her first singles dual as a Husker, 6-3, 7-5.

Reimers and Albers easily won their No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-2. NU junior Maria Ring and Swarting overcame an early deficit to win their No. 2 doubles match over Parke-Bedard and O'Riley, 8-5. Evans and Chandronnait teamed up to win their first doubles match of dual season by an 8-5 score in No. 3 doubles.

"We really need to get off to a quick start," Jacobson said, "As far as doubles go, we need to wake up because we trailed early in all three matches. I am proud of them battling back."

The Huskers had one day to rest before playing Colorado State and their third dual in a nine-day span.

"I love to play that many matches," Evans said.

NU started Sunday's dual against Colorado State quickly in doubles, just like Jacobson wanted. Reimers and Albers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and won 8-4 in No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Chandronnait and Evans dropped their first game, but ran off the next five on their way to an 8-5 victory.

Ring and Swarting played the most exciting match of the day in their 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles. The back-and-forth match was tied 6-6 with Swarting serving. She saved a break point at 30-40 and held on to take a 7-6 advantage. Ring and Swarting responded by breaking CSU when it counted to win the match.

The Huskers played their strongest team singles match by far, never giving up more than three games in any set. Reimers won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, in a match that took slightly less than an hour. Swarting won a 6-2, 6-3 match at No. 2 singles and Albers dominated at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1. Evans cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, while in the No. 5 slot, Chandronnait ran to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph in a match that took slightly less than 50 minutes. Buxton won a 6-2, 6-2 match at No. 6 singles.

NU returns to action next weekend, with home duals on Friday against Drake and on Sunday against Wyoming.

"No player really stood out individually," Jacobson said. "The entire team did well as a whole. This was the best team we've played and we played our best (Sunday)."
