On the front page of the Monday edition of the Daily Nebraskan, we quoted a sophomore who said he wasn't going to vote because he didn't register. He said the issues didn't compel him enough. "I'm not that concerned," he said. Well, you know what Mr. Non-voter? You and the rest of the non-voting 18- to 24-year-old demographic are a complete embarrassment to yourselves, your generation, your parents, your grandparents, your country and your government teacher. On Oct. 9, Lincoln's City Council and the Lancaster County Commissioner voted to approve a suicide prevention grant focused at gay and lesbian youth. The approval of this much-needed grant has in no way rendered the issue moot. The opposition to the grant from Councilwoman Robin Eschliman and Commissioner Bob Workman has fueled an ongoing debate. Today is about myths and monsters, ghosts and ghouls, the undead and the unbelievable. Across the country, countless preteens will dress as the scariest characters their minds can conjure, hoping to impress and terrify onlookers into handing over the goods. (0) comments
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of watching a 20-minute castration scene. I can thank David Slade's "Hard Candy" for this. The movie revolves around a young girl, played by Ellen Page, who turns the tables on an online predator, played by Patrick Wilson. (2) comments
