Student shatters neighboring fraternity window
On Friday, Aug. 27, around 1:20 a.m., officers received a report of vandalism at the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house at 519 N. 16th St.
"The report was that someone had broken a window and that the person was possibly inside another fraternity house. The officers contacted the witness and got a description of who the person responsible was," said Carl Oestmann, director of patrol operations for UNL police.
The witness said the suspect was holding a brick at the time of the incident.
Jacob Grimes, a junior UNL marketing and business administration major, was arrested at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house at 601 N. 16th St. with a cut on his right hand. There was also blood around the broken window. Grimes received a citation for criminal mischief. Estimated damage to the window totaled $200.
Student in underwear resists arrest
On Saturday, Aug. 28, at 1:18 a.m., officers went to the Gamma Phi Beta house at 415 N. 16th St. for a report of indecent exposure.
"This person, along with another person, were apparently in their underwear ringing the doorbell to a sorority house," Oestmann said. "Officers observed a person who was running outside of that location. Officers instructed him to stop. He continued running."
The student was subsequently caught by officers and identified as Berlin Stephens, a UNL student living in the Phi Delta Theta house, according to Oestmann. UNL police transported Stephens to Lancaster County Corrections, where he was cited and lodged for failure to comply. He registered a .109 BAC.
Non-student caught with drugs in student vehicle
At 3:50 a.m, Sunday, Aug. 29, officers received a report of a man wandering north of Burr Hall on East Campus, fitting the description of a suspicious person. A second witness called and reported seeing a person in a vehicle parked in a nearby lot.
Officers arrived and made contact with the person in the car, who was identified as Cosmo Craig, a 23-year-old, non-student Lincoln resident. He had entered an unlocked student vehicle.
"During search, the officers did locate a small plastic bag containing a substance of what is believed to have been methamphetamine," Oestmann said. The substance weighed 1.3 grams.
Craig received citations for attempted theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance and was lodged at Lancaster County jail.
Locked bicycle stolen from rack
A student living at the Selleck Quadrangle reported a stolen bicycle this Sunday, Aug. 29, at 12:40 p.m. The bike was locked to a rack at the time of the incident. When the student returned, he noticed the lock had been cut and the bike was stolen. There are no witnesses or suspects at this time, Oestmann said. The value of the missing bike is estimated at $1,800.
4-H Building tagged by graffiti
On Sunday, Aug. 29, at 9:17 a.m., a report of vandalism came from the 4-H Building on Innovation Campus. Police met with the reporting person and discovered spray paint across the south wooden doors on the inside of the building as well as on a north-facing window, according to Oestmann. Damage totaled $300, and there are no suspects at this time.
