God has been silenced in America for the past half century, according to Jeff Miller, a researcher for Apologetics Press.
This "cycle of unbelief" in God is contested in a video series showing at the Lincoln Church of Christ, 820 N. 56th St. The series, "The Silencing of God," stars Miller and will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on April 8, 15, 22 and 29.
"This phase of the cycle (of secularism) commenced in America in the last half century and is illustrated in the world around us in a myriad of ways," Miller said.
The religious beliefs of America's founding fathers are largely disputed among historians. Some believe they were undoubtedly Christians while others think they were Deists.
Christian author and blogger James Watkins said on his Web site it is apparent that our founding fathers were "certainly godly men who believed in a supreme being." Documents written by these men prove this, but not necessarily that they were Christian, he concluded.
Miller stated in his research that America has denied its founders' Christian intentions by allowing un-Christian concepts to be deemed acceptable. He touches on issues such as abortion, homosexuality, animal rights and environmentalism.
Dan Fraiser, a pastor at the church, agreed with Miller.
"The pluralism and the relativism that is part of our society today, that urges us to accept all things equally, diminishes the standard of Christianity that was at the very root (of our nation's founding)," Fraiser said.
