Enjoying 'Mamma Mia' Live and in Person Although it’s hard to shed a negative light on a movie with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and recent Oscar-winner Colin Firth, I’m going to say it. The movie version of “Mamma Mia” takes away from some of the fun and excitement evident in the stage show. From the use of larger, less intimate settings, to the ability to change locales, costumes and other details during numbers, there was just something that didn’t vibe right with the musical numbers in the movie version. But as I strolled down the aisle to find my seat Sunday afternoon, I found myself with a fresh feeling of excitement at the prospect of having my second exposure to the theater version of “Mamma Mia”.
