People who are fans, and their numbers are great, already know The Gaslight Anthem is playing the Bourbon Theatre tomorrow night.
The band is a powerhouse of American rock, so they don't really need much promotion from the Daily Nebraskan.
The Gaslight Anthem isn't the only band performing tomorrow, though.
Along with the Jersey rockers will be Florida-based rock band Fake Problems and Pennsylvanian punk outfit The Menzingers.
Fake Problems is a band just beginning to come into their own.
They've toured with The Gaslight Anthem in the past, when neither groups were very well-known, and are looking forward to reuniting now that both bands have more notoriety.
The Daily Nebraskan was able to catch up with the founder and frontman of Fake Problems, Chris Farren, for an interview.
DN: Fake Problems originally started out as your solo project, right?
CF: Kind of. I reached out to people, because I wanted to start a band. I've never done shows or toured alone or anything like that. It pretty much started with me calling up some people and saying, "Hey, I want to start a band. Do you want to be in it?"
DN: What made you want to have your own band?
CF: I've always wanted to be in a band, since I was a kid. And I've been in other bands throughout my youth. But I wanted to be in a real band, a real touring rock group. So, I put together a band and we started touring, pretty much right off the bat.
DN: What's it like for you guys to tour with a band as well-known as The Gaslight Anthem?
CF: We've known those guys for years. We actually went on tour with them about three or four years ago, when we were both playing basement shows and really small venues. So we've known them from their very beginning. So, it's awesome to see how far they've grown since then.
DN: What is the backstage chemistry like on a tour like this?
CF: I don't really know yet. I'm excited to find out. I hope that we'll still be able to hang out and share a laugh about the good ol' days, just like it's always been. Just hanging out with your friends.
DN: Have you guys ever toured through Nebraska or Lincoln before?
CF: Yeah, we have a couple times. We recorded our last record with A.J. Mogis at the Ark Studio. So yeah, we're familiar with Nebraska.
DN: Are you looking forward to coming back?
CF: We really loved playing Nebraska, and we've had a great time every time we've come. And like I said, we recorded our last record there, and we had a horn section from a university in Omaha play on the record. So we have a nice connection to the Nebraska music scene. And we were inspired growing up by bands like Bright Eyes, Cursive and The Faint, so I mean it's pretty much where a majority of our main songwriting influences come from.
DN: I was listening to some of your songs, and I would describe it as up-beat, fun, anthemic rock and roll. How would you describe your music?
CF: You know, like an indie rock band. Our new record is kind of more reserved than our other music, more laid back, but it's still up-beat for sure. Somebody did a review and called it "beach punk," which I thought was pretty cool, so I think we'll go with that for now.
DN: All-in-all, end of the day, what do you want to get out of this tour?
CF: I'd just love to reach out to Gaslight's fans and hopefully play for a number of our fans already and have a really good time and have a fun show every night. I mean with bands like us, The Menzingers and The Gaslight Anthem on the show, it's going to be fun. No matter what.
