John Lennon once stated, "All you need is love." Clearly, he didn't think about the entire wedding process.
Cake cutters, hors d'oeuvre packages, centerpieces, flower arrangements and matching napkin rings are a few things Lennon neglected to mention.
The Holiday Inn, Cornhusker Marriott and Embassy Suites are the main hotels for wedding receptions in Lincoln. All three are full-service hotels, so the only outside food allowed is cake. The main difference in the wedding packages is the pricing.
Embassy Suites offers a few different packages ranging from $65 per person to $120 per person. All packages include set-up and tear-down of the reception hall, a few varieties of napkin colors and an ice sculpture.
Marriott prices vary from $28 per person to $41 per person. These packages include more than 50 different combinations of appetizers, main dishes and desserts. Standard china glass and silverware is included along with the standard white linen. Loose glitter and open-flame candles are not allowed however.
Rose Castor, catering sales manager, explained the different deals the Holiday Inn offers. Packages range from $17.95 to $33.95 per person and include complimentary cake cutters and bartenders. Every detail is planned with the bridal party at no extra charge, including the many different linen colors and centerpieces.
Castor hosts about 75 to 88 weddings a year.
"I work six days a week and always make myself available to my brides," Castor said. "Lincoln is a great place to get married because all of the wedding coordinators are fantastic."
Patrick Murphy, senior event manager for the Marriott, agreed.
"Parents love it when their kids get married in Lincoln," he said. "Whether families have to travel from the west or east coast, meeting in the middle cuts the cost."
In Lincoln, the major hotel venues offer a lot of different options for any type of wedding.
While love can bring two people together, it takes more than that to put a wedding together.
