James Vanderslice, 29, is the creator of the amateur college girl pornography site Nebraskacoeds.com. The site features University of Nebraska-Lincoln girls and an array of Midwest party girls, filmed here in Lincoln and in other exotic locations.
The site says that is was started in a dorm room here in Lincoln in 2001, and has been a hub of "flashing, fucking, drinking and partying" for nine years. The Daily Nebraskan was able to catch Vanderslice for an interview, and found out how sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll is done Midwest-style.
Daily Nebraskan: Is James Vanderslice a stage name?
James Vanderslice: That’s my real name. Yeah, dude. I do everything with my real name.
DN: Where did you go to school?
JV: I went to school at San Diego State actually. I did school for a little while, then dropped out and started the site. I’m from Lincoln, though, so all my friends went to UNL. So I went to all the parties.
DN: On the site, it says it started from a dorm room. How did the site get started?
JV: I started shooting down in Tijuana actually. In San Diego, you can go across the border when you’re 18 and drink in the clubs, so I took my camera down there. I was only in school for a year, then came back to Nebraska. I started the site back then in San Diego, and when I came back to Nebraska, I started shooting again when I went out to the clubs.
I also sold VHS tapes on eBay, and that was the way I started making the most money. But then the Web site started making more money, so I just went with that.
I was on a lot of local news there in Lincoln for a long time.
DN: What is the general concept behind the site?
JV: I mean, it changes. It’s always college girls. But sometimes I shoot girls in a hotel room. I shoot a lot of girls that go to UNL. I shoot a lot of girls in my friends’ houses back home in Lincoln and in my old apartment in Lincoln. But I’ve since moved here to Tampa about a year ago. But I still go back and shoot girls all the time. Girls in Omaha and Des Moines and in Council Bluffs, also.
DN: Nebraska Coeds is amateur, correct?
JV: Yes. None of the girls are on anything else. There has been a couple of exceptions just because a couple of the girls we’ve met have turned into porn stars. A couple we’ve met at spring break actually, two of them. We randomly met them, shot them, then years later they’ve turned out to be porn stars. But we were definitely the first ones they ever worked with.
DN: Is the name just because this is where you are originally from?
JV: I would say 80 to 90 percent of all the girls I shoot now are all from Lincoln. Most are from Lincoln that I just fly down (to Tampa). So they get a free vacation, and they make some money down here. And it’s way easier to party; they can do more stuff at the clubs here without getting into trouble.
DN: How do you make money from this?
JV: I have a pay-per-view series now. It’s on cable and satellite, and it’s called Nebraska Coeds. It’s a whole TV series that I’m shooting. Every month, I have to come up with another episode. And it will be on Dish Network, too, within the month.
That makes quite a bit. The DVDs are kind of outdated, nobody buys that stuff anymore. The Web site memberships is by far where I make the most money.
DN: How many people are involved in your business?
JV: I have friends that do camera work. I have a couple here in Tampa, and I have three in Lincoln. I have some friends in Lincoln who will shoot girls while I’m not even there. And then I have a recruiter who finds girls for me in Council Bluffs. He travels to Lincoln, too.
DN: What’s the most important thing to remember in your business?
JV: Uh, make sure girls are of age: That’s the most important thing. Just not putting yourself in a situation where they wouldn’t be. That’s about it.
Not to ask anybody anything they don’t want to do. Some girls will get completely naked, some will only show a bra, some will whatever. Whatever they want to do, and you never want to push it.
DN: What’s the best part of your job?
JV: Just filming, man. I love it, you know. Just out partying, and pulling the camera out, and you know, just enjoying the power that goes along with having a camera in your hands.
DN: What is better, a planned shoot or spontaneous shooting?
JV: I was just thinking about that last night. I think that something spontaneous is probably better; I like the spontaneous that turns into a shoot. Because I always take money with me.
You go to a party, I can tell if a girl is going to do it or not do it. I can tell.
DN: How much do actresses make?
JV: Actresses? Oh, the girls? The girls make 350. Or if I fly them down here for a week they make about a grand. Everything is paid for.
DN: What was your worst experience with Nebraska Coeds?
JV: The worst time was at Party Cove (in the Ozarks). After spending the whole day on the boat, we went back to the hotel, the Howard Johnson. And one of camera guys was super drunk, and two of the girls were super drunk, and what ended up happening was one of the camera guys and one of the girls ended up having sex in the hot tub in the pool area. I mean they got completely naked. The problem was there were a bunch of families in the pool area.
They saw it all. It was the middle of the day when this happened, like five o’clock. I was like, dude. I ordered pizza, I look outside, and there are forty cop cars. It was ridiculous. And they got arrested, and we had to bail them out, and got kicked out of the hotel. It was crazy.
DN: What was the best?
JV: The best one was probably… There are so many of them. Many of them have gotten on the national news.
I was shooting girls and Joe Francis came, and I was partying with Joe Francis. And Mario Lopez was there, too, Slater from “Saved By The Bell.” And then Paul Oakenfold – he’s a DJ – knocked on the door.
That and just recently we partied with The Killers up in my condo in Tampa.
DN: The Killers?
JV: Yeah, dude, they were up here. They threw a pumpkin off my balcony while I was shooting girls in my place.
Dude, it was crazy. Those were my two faves. They were crazy. They were falling over shit, and I’m videotaping how drunk they are, and we’re drunk too. And they were trying to steal the girls that we had over. I videotaped it all. But I’m not going to use it. I’ll use it someday.
It’s something that you don’t want to hurt their image because they’ll be right back on tour again. And I want to make sure we’re friends.
There is a lot of stuff I don’t put on my site because I don’t want to get into trouble, especially when celebrities are involved. Except for my stuff with TMZ. Some weird guy from the History Channel just happened to be in some photos of mine from like 2007 in Iowa.
DN: Have you met any other celebrities?
JV: Vanilla Ice. We hang out with him at spring break every year in South Padre.

i don't really have an opinion about the website... never seen it. as for the commentary on "james", i believe he's a sham.
Ok, so he "plays" chicks to get them on film- it works, he's successful, and the girls are getting paid.
He's no Joe Francis people-
Maybe the girl's morals in these videos should be put on blast!
One more thing- he will not end up lonely and broke (I think I read early on) he's built an empire at the age of 29-- he will be retired before most of you are middle aged!
