When a student arrives on campus, whether its to start off a new school year or just to visit, it is a universal truth that they always end up at the bookstore.

Nebraska apparel and sometimes even a giant corn hat are standard go-to impulse buys, whether a student is a freshman coming in or a high school senior deciding whether or not they will attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln the next fall. With two main booksellers on or near the UNL campus, students must decide between the University Bookstore and the Nebraska Bookstore.

Some of these students may have discovered that Nebraska Bookstore is, in fact, no longer Nebraska Bookstore.

The signs outside the bookstore on the corner of Q Street now read: "Neebo."

This new name, created through the marketing department at the Nebraska Book Company and an outside advertising agency, tested with the student body, said Sue Riedman, vice president of corporate communications for Nebraska Book Company.

Riedman said the name creates exactly the image the company stands for: a welcoming, approachable place with everything a college student needs inside.

Many do not realize, however, that Neebo, the Nebraska Bookstore, is not simply in Nebraska.

The Nebraska Book Company has more than 280 stores nationwide with many different names on their signs.

Neebo will become the brand name for the entire company, so customers will now know they're all related.

"We wanted to create one name where students can get everything they need for college through a store, online or on a mobile device," Riedman said.

With one main name chosen for these bookstores across the nation, there is now also a national website behind the stores.

This provides a greater selection of used textbooks, UNL (and other college) merchandise and even merchandise from other satellite campuses of the University of Nebraska.

"Instead of going into the bookstore, you can go online and get the same local feel and it saves students money," Riedman said.

Amanda Tangeman, store manager for the Q Street location, echoed Riedman's sentiments about brand recognition and convenience for students across the country.

"(Neebo) really brings students everything that they need in stores and online," Tangeman said. "(We're) now a recognized brand and we're all related."
