The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will be hosting two special events to accompany the film "Food Inc."

In "Food Inc.," which will be showing at the Ross until Sept. 3, filmmaker Robert Kenner takes a hard look at the U.S. food industry and examines who is controlling our nation's food supply.

As part of its opening night reception, those who attend the film Friday night will be treated to a sampling of locally grown food prepared by local chefs. Maggie's Vegetarian Restaurant, Pepe's Vegetarian Mexican Restaurant, Open Harvest, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Dairy Store and UNL Dining Services will all be providing finger foods and a selection of local wines. The night's activities, which will kick off at 5:30 p.m., aim to show the importance of supporting local food production.

On Sunday, a Movie Talk will take place at 2:30 p.m., following the 12:45 p.m showing of "Food Inc." Speakers at the event include Judy Gilliard, who used to write a monthly feature for Emeril Lagasse's Web site, as well as Evrett Lunquist, who owns Common Good Farm.

Other speakers are Jason Kvols and Ross Garwood, who serve on the Nebraska Farm Bureau's Board of Directors.
