Anti-indie band Deer Tick to play Bourbon

Zero percent indie rock.

Deer Tick's MySpace page makes a hefty claim in a world where indie music is ironically becoming more mainstream.

But for what it lacks in indie, Deer Tick makes up for in attitude.

"We don't identify with a lot of bands," said guitarist and vocalist John McCauley. "We're doing our own thing, and we don't want your bullshit."

While the band might not subscribe to genre labels, the Americana tag is hard to shake. Their sound begs to be blasted through the walls of an abandoned barn party on the outskirts of any town.

Deer Tick plans to bring that party to Lincoln with a show tomorrow night at the Bourbon Theatre.

"I just want people to have a fun time," said McCauley, holding himself to that same standard. "Depends on my mood, but I'm usually kind of a clown on stage."

Jonny Corndawg, a singer/songwriter from Nashville, Tenn., is accompanying Deer Tick on its fall tour and has a different goal for each night.

"That everyone buys as much merch as possible," Corndawg said. "It's not even the money thing. Just so people have something to take home with them, or they'll forget about it the next day."

But college kids aren't the only ones walking into Deer Tick and Jonny Corndawg's shows on this tour.

"This one's been interesting. Most nights we usually have to make a run for it," Corndawg said. "There's been some superfan-stalker stuff happen on this one. We have a decoy car drive ahead in some places."

Deer Tick has been touring with Corndawg this past week and will continue touring with other artists throughout the rest of fall. They are currently touring in support of their latest album "Born on Flag Day," which was released in June.

During the recording of "Born on Flag Day," they also recorded another album, which is set to release early next year.

McCauley said, "We're hoping to get into the studio then to make a new album around when the new one comes out."
