Traditional American weddings have long been the receptacles for stuffy string pieces during ceremonies and underachieving DJs at receptions, playing the same mix of stale dance-pop hits. "Electric Slide" and the "Funky Chicken" make a cameo no matter who is getting married. However, there is a band that doesn't think wedding music should have to be the boring, same old stuff.

Meet 3D In Your Face, an Omaha-based hair metal tribute band that is willing to play your wedding, or any other event you might be planning.

3D In Your Face – so named because of their elaborate, right-there-in-your-face stage show – have been shredding hair metal for the past 11 years.

"We started out working on original music, and we all knew all of the ‘80s bands and songs," said singer Alan "Hot Rod" King. "We knew a lot of people liked that kind of music, so we said ‘let's do it like they did in the ‘80s. Let's make it real entertaining. Let's make sure people like it.'"

It all started with one fateful Halloween party, and then the phone never stopped ringing, he said.

3D In Your Face does more than just weddings. The majority of their time is spent playing regular concert gigs and festivals throughout the region. But their weddings are something special.

"The people's weddings we've played have either been fans of the band or big fans of the ‘80s," Hot Rod said. "We'll even learn specific songs for people if they're real big fans."

One of 3D In Your Face's wedding gigs was particularly personal, because the couple getting married had met at one of its shows.

"Their wedding song was ‘From Above,' one of our original songs," said guitarist Jody "Jet" Kermoade. "It was a blast. It's always fun playing something personal for someone and making it fun for them.

"I also usually drink with the groom," he said.

Even if the wedding isn't for a couple who have a special connection with the band, 3D In Your Face makes the reception rock. The band loves to get to know all the people, too.
