One Nebraska football player is out for next season and another's spring status is in doubt, NU Coach Bill Callahan said Wednesday afternoon.

Callahan said Cornhusker running back Kenny Wilson, who was a junior last season, broke his leg a few days ago and has undergone surgery in Omaha.

"The other night, Kenny sustained an injury while moving a television set and seemingly broke his femur," Callahan said. "Our hearts go out - prayers go out - for Kenny as he tries to rehab through a real tough injury."

Callahan said Wilson will most likely miss the 2007 campaign, though the team is optimistic the running back will qualify for a redshirt. Wilson was already expected to miss most of the spring season recovering from a staph infection in his leg.

"It's just been a real tough circumstance for him," Callahan said. "Just when he seemingly was getting better, this is just a tremendous setback for him personally."

Wilson averaged 27.9 yards in 12 games for Nebraska last year. His best game came against Troy on Sept. 23, when he rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the Huskers' 56-0 win.

Callahan also said cornerback Zackary Bowman suffered a knee injury during Wednesday's practice in a seven-on-seven drill. The NU coach said he planned to review film of the injury and speak with doctors about Bowman immediately following practice.

The exercise was a non-contact drill, Callahan said.

"I think it was a collision of legs on a crossing route, from what I can gather," the coach added.

NU redshirt freshman wide receiver Will Henry said he was near the play when Bowman went down.

"I just saw the aftermath of it, but (the coaches) said he was alright," Henry said. "He just bumped knees, so he should be alright."

Bowman missed the entire 2006 season after suffering a knee injury in August. In 2005, the then-junior cornerback collected two interceptions and led the Huskers with 14 pass breakups.
