I watched "In Search of a Midnight Kiss" expecting to fall in love with it. I wanted to be able to turn off the film, run right to my Facebook and add it to my favorite movies. Now, I wish Facebook had a section where I could put movies I'm still contemplating.
The movie follows Wilson (Scoot McNairy), in his search for someone to kiss at midnight on New Year's. His friends force him to put up an ad on Craigslist.com, in hopes Wilson won't be miserable when others are kissing people they love.
Soon after, Wilson gets a phone call from Vivian (Sara Simmonds) When they meet up at a quaint little restaurant, things get interesting.
The rest of the movie follows the pair through Los Angeles. The movie shot is shot in black and white, which makes it seem more realistic and less like "The Hills."
The movie focuses mainly on Wilson and Vivian, but also on Wilson's two roommates, Jacob and Min, who have been dating for quite a while. Jacob (Brian McGuire) tells Wilson he's going to propose to Min (Kathleen Luong), but of course, something goes wrong. This subplot wasn't really interesting to me, and made me want to know what was going on with Wilson and Vivian even more.
I would recommend this movie to anyone in the mood for a good indie love story with diverse and lovable characters. This movie made me cry - which is always a plus in my book - but it also made me laugh.
Throughout the movie, I discovered a lot about the characters and their lives, and that left me wanting more. I didn't want the movie to end, but sadly it did. Still, I'm glad it ended when it did, and that it didn't drag on the way some movies do.
Being the sappy optimist that I am, I hate when the prince doesn't get his princess, although I'm not saying Wilson doesn't get Vivian in the end. It's a bit more complex than that.
Overall, I did fall in love with this movie, but not in the way I was expecting. I loved the characters, Los Angeles in black and white and the fact it made me cry.
